CSAT Calculator: calculate csat for your business. Formula, benchmarks, and practical tips included.
Customer Satisfaction Score (CSAT) measures how satisfied customers are with a specific interaction, product, or service, typically using a simple rating scale (1–5 or 1–10). CSAT is most useful for measuring satisfaction at specific touchpoints — immediately after a support interaction, delivery, or onboarding call. It provides fast, actionable feedback on individual interactions rather than the overall relationship measured by NPS. Profit Margin Calculator and Markup Calculator provide a more complete customer experience picture alongside CSAT.
CSAT % = (Number of satisfied responses ÷ Total responses) × 100
"Satisfied" is defined as top-box responses — scores of 4 or 5 on a 5-point scale, or 9–10 on a 10-point scale.
Worked example: 500 post-support survey responses. 430 rate 4 or 5 out of 5. CSAT = 430/500 × 100 = 86%. Industry benchmark for customer support: 85–90% is typical for well-performing teams.
Typical CSAT benchmarks: post-support interaction 80–90%; product satisfaction 75–90%; delivery/fulfilment 90–95%; onboarding 80–90%; billing enquiry 70–80%. The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) tracks national CSAT averages across sectors — e-commerce approximately 80, retail approximately 76, banks approximately 78, airlines approximately 73 (2023 data). Sector-specific benchmarks are more useful than absolute comparisons.
Customer survey data must be collected and stored in compliance with applicable data protection law (GDPR, CCPA, etc.). Published CSAT claims in marketing must be accurate and representative — cherry-picking responses or selective publication may breach consumer protection regulations.
