Accuracy and transparency

Why United Calculator

Every page follows the same content standard: formula derivation, a worked example with real numbers, applicable laws or professional guidance, 6 plain-language FAQs, and links to 8 related tools.

Verified formulas

Each formula engine is based on published standards — TILA for loan calculations, METS tables for energy expenditure, ASTM standards for materials, and equivalents across 16 subject areas. The formula is shown in a code block on every result card so you can verify the calculation independently.

Professional context, not professional advice

Finance and health calculators cover applicable legislation (CFPB, NHS, OSHA) and reference professional thresholds (e.g. debt-to-income ratios accepted by lenders, WHO BMI categories). Every page includes a disclaimer — these tools are planning aids. Consequential decisions should be reviewed with a qualified professional.

No account, no tracking, no fee

Calculations run entirely in your browser. No data leaves your device. There are no login walls, no usage limits, no subscription tiers, and no premium paywalls. The only data stored is nothing — no cookies are set beyond what your browser requires to render the page.

Transparent methodology

Smart defaults come from published benchmarks — median UK household income from ONS, US average mortgage rate from Freddie Mac weekly surveys, average commute distances from the US Census ACS. Defaults are documented in the article body on each calculator page.

Simple by design

How United Calculator works

Three steps from question to answer — no account, no subscription, no ads cluttering the result.

Search or browse

Type a topic into the search box or click a category. Each category is a mini-library of 125 calculator pages targeting specific questions — loan payments, BMI, tile counts, carbon footprint, and more.

Enter your values

Smart defaults are pre-filled so you get an immediate example result. Replace any field with your own data. Click the ? icon on any field for a plain-language explanation of what that input means.

Read, copy, and share

The result updates in real time. The formula is shown in a code block below the answer. Copy the result to your clipboard, share it to 8 social platforms, or scroll down for the full explanation, FAQs, and 8 related calculators.

EUR to GBP Calculator

EUR to GBP Calculator: convert eur to gbp instantly. Full formula, unit table, and worked example.

A currency converter calculates the equivalent value of an amount in one currency using a specified exchange rate, and shows the impact of exchange fees and bid-ask spreads on the actual amount received. Exchange rates fluctuate continuously based on interest rate differentials, inflation, trade flows, and market sentiment. The "mid-market rate" (interbank rate) is the midpoint between buy and sell prices — the rate you see on Google; the actual retail rate includes a margin of 1–5% above this.

Used for international travel budget planning, online shopping from foreign retailers, international money transfers, investment calculations, and business import/export pricing.

  1. Enter the amount and select the source currency.
  2. Select the target currency.
  3. Enter the exchange rate (check a live source like Google Finance, XE.com, or your bank's current published rate).
  4. Enter any applicable fee percentage to see the true all-in cost of the conversion.
  5. For international transfers, compare the all-in cost (exchange rate margin + fees) across providers — the headline exchange rate alone is misleading.

Currency conversion formula

Converted amount = Source amount × Exchange rate

Effective rate = Bank/provider rate — compare to mid-market rate to measure the margin

Total cost of transfer = Fixed fee + (Amount × exchange rate margin%)

Break-even comparison: Provider A vs B — compare fixed fees and margins for your specific transfer amount

Understanding currency conversion costs

Mid-market vs retail rates

Banks typically charge 2–5% above the mid-market rate (often without disclosing this as a fee). On a $10,000 transfer at 3% margin, you lose $300 to the spread. Money transfer specialists (Wise, Revolut) typically offer rates within 0.3–1.0% of mid-market. Airport currency exchanges can charge 8–15% margins — the most expensive option. Credit cards with no foreign transaction fee + good exchange rates (Charles Schwab, Chase Sapphire) are often the best option for travel spending.

Conversion tips and best practices

Common mistakes to avoid

Exchange rates shown are for informational purposes only and change continuously. For large transactions, verify the current rate with your provider at the time of transaction. Currency exchange is regulated by FinCEN (US), FCA (UK), and equivalent national financial regulators. For cross-border amounts exceeding $10,000, US banks are required to file Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) with FinCEN.
