Energy (kWh) = Power (W) × Hours ÷ 1,000
Daily cost = Energy per day (kWh) × Unit rate (per kWh)
Annual cost = Daily cost × 365
Worked example: A 2,500W tumble dryer used 5 hours per week at 0.28/kWh. Weekly energy = 2,500 × 5 ÷ 1,000 = 12.5 kWh. Weekly cost = 12.5 × 0.28 = 3.50. Annual cost = 3.50 × 52 = 182/year. Drying clothes on a rack instead saves the full 182/year with zero capital cost.
