A deeper, narrower pan requires significantly more time than a wider, shallower one at the same volume. Getting this right is the most common technical baking challenge when adapting recipes.

Worked example: Recipe for an 8-inch round pan at 350°F for 35 minutes. Baking in a 10-inch round pan instead. Area ratio = (5² × π) ÷ (4² × π) = 25 ÷ 16 = 1.5625. Adjusted time = 35 × √1.5625 = 35 × 1.25 = 44 minutes. Reduce temperature slightly to 325°F to prevent over-browning in the wider, shallower pan.
