Worked example: 32-year-old woman, 68 kg, 165 cm, lightly active, exclusively breastfeeding a 2-month-old. BMR = 680 + 1,031 − 160 − 161 = 1,390 kcal. TDEE = 1,390 × 1.375 = 1,911 kcal. Breastfeeding target = 1,911 + 500 = 2,411 kcal/day. For gradual weight loss at safe rate (−200 kcal): 2,211 kcal/day.
