Accuracy and transparency

Why United Calculator

Every page follows the same content standard: formula derivation, a worked example with real numbers, applicable laws or professional guidance, 6 plain-language FAQs, and links to 8 related tools.

Verified formulas

Each formula engine is based on published standards — TILA for loan calculations, METS tables for energy expenditure, ASTM standards for materials, and equivalents across 16 subject areas. The formula is shown in a code block on every result card so you can verify the calculation independently.

Professional context, not professional advice

Finance and health calculators cover applicable legislation (CFPB, NHS, OSHA) and reference professional thresholds (e.g. debt-to-income ratios accepted by lenders, WHO BMI categories). Every page includes a disclaimer — these tools are planning aids. Consequential decisions should be reviewed with a qualified professional.

No account, no tracking, no fee

Calculations run entirely in your browser. No data leaves your device. There are no login walls, no usage limits, no subscription tiers, and no premium paywalls. The only data stored is nothing — no cookies are set beyond what your browser requires to render the page.

Transparent methodology

Smart defaults come from published benchmarks — median UK household income from ONS, US average mortgage rate from Freddie Mac weekly surveys, average commute distances from the US Census ACS. Defaults are documented in the article body on each calculator page.

Simple by design

How United Calculator works

Three steps from question to answer — no account, no subscription, no ads cluttering the result.

Search or browse

Type a topic into the search box or click a category. Each category is a mini-library of 125 calculator pages targeting specific questions — loan payments, BMI, tile counts, carbon footprint, and more.

Enter your values

Smart defaults are pre-filled so you get an immediate example result. Replace any field with your own data. Click the ? icon on any field for a plain-language explanation of what that input means.

Read, copy, and share

The result updates in real time. The formula is shown in a code block below the answer. Copy the result to your clipboard, share it to 8 social platforms, or scroll down for the full explanation, FAQs, and 8 related calculators.

W per kg Calculator

W per kg Calculator — calculate w per kg for training and performance. Evidence-based formula and benchmarks.

A cycling power calculator converts between power output (watts), speed, weight, and gradient to help cyclists understand their performance, set training zones, and estimate race times. Power is the gold standard metric in cycling — unlike heart rate it responds instantly to effort changes, and unlike speed it is not affected by wind or gradient. Functional Threshold Power (FTP) — the maximum power you can sustain for approximately one hour — anchors all power-based training zones.

Used by road cyclists, triathletes, mountain bikers, and track cyclists to structure training, analyse race demands, and monitor fitness progression over time.

  1. Enter your FTP in watts — if you do not know it, use 95% of your best 20-minute average power as an estimate.
  2. Enter your body weight to compute watts per kilogram (W/kg) — the key comparative metric.
  3. Enter speed and gradient to estimate the power required for specific segments or climbs.
  4. Review your training zones (Zone 1–7) based on your FTP percentages.
  5. Track FTP over time — most cyclists improve 5–15% in their first structured training season.

Cycling power formulas

W/kg = FTP (watts) / body weight (kg) — the primary comparative metric for climbing performance

Power to climb: P ≈ (mass_total × g × gradient + rolling resistance + aerodynamic drag) × velocity

Training zones (% FTP): Z1 <55%, Z2 56–75%, Z3 76–90%, Z4 91–105%, Z5 106–120%, Z6 121–150%, Z7 >150%

Estimated FTP from 20-min test: FTP ≈ 0.95 × 20-minute average power

Interpreting your cycling power results

W/kg benchmarks by category

Recreational cyclist: 1.5–2.5 W/kg. Sportive/gran fondo competitive: 2.5–3.5 W/kg. Cat 3/4 amateur racer: 3.5–4.5 W/kg. Cat 1/2 / domestic pro: 4.5–5.5 W/kg. World Tour professional: 5.5–6.5 W/kg. Tour de France GC contenders average ~6.2 W/kg for major climbs. W/kg is more meaningful than raw watts for hilly courses because gravity is the dominant resistance force on steep grades.

Common mistakes to avoid

Power-based training recommendations are general guidelines. Individual responses to training vary. Consult a certified cycling coach for a personalised training plan. Always follow road safety laws and wear appropriate protective equipment.
