Response Rate Calculator

Calculate survey response rate as completed interviews divided by eligible sampled units, where eligible units equal sampled units minus ineligible units.

The Response Rate Calculator reports completed interviews as a percentage of eligible sampled units. It defines the denominator explicitly as sampled units minus ineligible units, then divides completed interviews by that eligible count.

The result is a direct calculation from the three counts entered. It does not infer unknown eligibility, adjust for partial interviews, or apply a survey-organisation-specific disposition rule.

  1. Enter the total sampled units as a whole-number count.
  2. Enter how many sampled units are ineligible.
  3. Enter the completed interviews, no greater than the eligible count.
  4. Review both the eligible denominator and the percentage result.

Response-rate formula

Eligible units = sampled units − ineligible units.

Response rate = completed interviews / eligible units × 100.

Check the eligible-unit count before interpreting the percentage. The calculation is unavailable when no eligible units remain, or when completed interviews exceed eligible units.
