Ecommerce Conversion Calculator

Ecommerce Conversion Calculator: calculate ecommerce conversion for your business. Formula, benchmarks, and practical tips included.

E-commerce conversion rate measures the percentage of website visitors who complete a purchase. It is the most important single efficiency metric for an online store — directly linking traffic to revenue. A 1% improvement in conversion rate on a store with 100,000 monthly visitors and an AOV of 60 generates 60,000 in additional monthly revenue with no increase in traffic costs. Profit Margin Calculator and Markup Calculator complete the core e-commerce revenue triangle.

  1. Enter number of completed purchases in a period.
  2. Enter total sessions or unique visitors for the same period.
  3. Conversion rate = Purchases ÷ Sessions × 100.
  4. Segment by device, traffic source, product category, and customer type.
  5. Model revenue impact: current sessions × (current CVR + improvement) × AOV vs current revenue.

Conversion rate formula

Conversion rate % = (Transactions ÷ Sessions) × 100

Revenue = Sessions × Conversion rate × AOV

Worked example: 50,000 monthly sessions. 1,250 transactions. CVR = 1,250/50,000 × 100 = 2.5%. AOV = 80. Revenue = 100,000. Improving CVR to 3.0% (a 20% relative improvement): 50,000 × 0.030 × 80 = 120,000 — a 20,000/month increase from CVR alone.

Conversion rate benchmarks

CVR by sector and device

Global average e-commerce conversion rates (IRP Commerce, 2024): food and drink approximately 4–5%; health and beauty approximately 3–4%; home and garden approximately 2–3%; fashion approximately 2–3%; electronics approximately 1.5–2.5%; luxury approximately 1–2%. Desktop CVR is typically 1.5–2× higher than mobile CVR. B2B e-commerce typically has lower CVR (0.5–1.5%) but much higher AOV. Benchmarks vary significantly by traffic quality — a site with primarily branded/direct traffic will have a structurally higher CVR than one driven mostly by paid social.

Common mistakes to avoid

Conversion rate optimisation practices must comply with consumer protection law — fake urgency ("only 2 left!" when stock is plentiful), fake reviews, and misleading price comparisons may breach trading standards regulations in most jurisdictions.
