Labour productivity = Revenue (or output) ÷ Employee hours (or FTEs)
Capital productivity = Revenue ÷ Capital employed
Total factor productivity (TFP) incorporates multiple inputs and requires an index approach.
Worked example: Manufacturing plant produces 24,000 units per month with 40 FTEs working 176 hours/month each. Labour hours = 7,040. Productivity = 24,000/7,040 = 3.41 units per labour hour. After process improvement, output rises to 27,000 with same staffing: productivity = 27,000/7,040 = 3.84 units/hour — a 12.5% productivity improvement.
