A sports analytics calculator covers two areas of athletic performance measurement: training recovery tracking (using subjective and objective wellness markers to assess readiness to train) and basketball guard performance analytics (per-game statistics, shooting percentages, and the effective field-goal percentage metric). These tools help athletes, coaches, and analysts monitor performance and prevent overtraining injuries.

Recovery monitoring uses training load (RPE × session duration), sleep hours, rest days, and muscle soreness to produce a readiness score. Guard analytics covers per-game scoring, rebounding, and assists alongside shooting efficiency metrics including the effective field-goal percentage (eFG%), which adjusts for the extra value of three-point shots relative to two-point shots.   1. Recovery Tracking tab: enter your training load (RPE 1–10 multiplied by session duration in minutes), rest days since your last hard session, sleep hours last night, and current muscle soreness (1–10). The tool calculates a recovery score and recommendation.
  2. Guard Analytics tab: enter games played and cumulative totals for points, assists, rebounds, turnovers, and shot attempts/makes. The tool calculates per-game averages, shooting percentages, eFG%, and the assist-to-turnover ratio.

Sports analytics formulas

Training load = RPE (1–10) × session duration (minutes). Acute:chronic workload ratio = this-week load / 4-week rolling average; ratio > 1.5 increases injury risk.

Effective field-goal percentage: eFG% = (FGM + 0.5 × 3PM) / FGA. This accounts for the 50% extra value of three-point shots. Assist-to-turnover ratio = assists / turnovers.

Interpreting sports analytics results

NBA guard benchmarks

Elite NBA point guards (e.g. top quartile) average 20+ PPG, 7+ APG, 1.5+ A/TO ratio, and 48%+ eFG%. An eFG% below 48% is considered below league average for shooting guards. For recovery: an acute:chronic ratio above 1.5 is associated with a 2–4× increase in soft-tissue injury risk. Aim for 7–9 hours of sleep per night for optimal recovery; chronic sleep restriction below 6 hours significantly impairs reaction time, decision-making, and sprint performance.

Training load and recovery formulas are based on Foster's session-RPE method (Foster et al., 2001) and the acute:chronic workload ratio framework (Hulin et al., 2016). Basketball statistics formulas follow NBA official statistical definitions.
